16 killed in flash floods triggered by heavy rains in India’s Himachal Pradesh

Sixteen people were killed and two injured in flash floods triggered by heavy rains in northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, officials said Wednesday.

The flash floods hit three districts, Chamba, Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti, on Tuesday.

According to the state disaster management authority, two people were killed in Chamba, four in Kullu and 10 others in Lahaul-Spiti.

Reports pouring in from many parts of the state said cloudbursts and flashfloods caused damage to roads.

According to officials, flash floods and landslides have become a common occurrence in the hill state during monsoons.
