30 CNG filling stations opened daily across Yangon during public holidays

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy said a total of 30 compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations are opened daily during the public holidays across Yangon Region.

The consumption of CNG has been on the rise and motor vehicles with CNG powertrain systems are mostly found in Yangon. The Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise normally opened 41 CNG filling stations in Yangon, selling roughly 24 million cubic feet of CNG to about nearly 28,300 CNG vehicles, including buses, taxis and other vehicles.

During this third-wave period, about seven million cubic feet are sold to the vehicles through 30 CNG filling stations for the convenience of CNG users during the public holidays. Based on the consumption, more CNG filling stations will be opened on the regular days.

Engineers themselves supervise the employees at the filling stations in complying with COVID-19 prevention rules and regulations.

Currently, the sale of CNG is quiet enough for operating vehicles with CNG powertrain systems. In the pre-COVID-19 era, a total of 46 filling stations were opened across the country, including 41 stations only in Yangon Region, two stations in Mandalay Region and three stations in Magway Region.

Regularly, about 24.14 million cubic feet of CNG are sold to motor vehicles in Yangon, in which, about 13.41 million cubic feet of them go to nearly 4,000 YBS buses.
