Coordination meeting on promotion of cooperation of international community including ASEAN countries and friendly countries in COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment undertakings held

A coordination meeting on promotion of cooperation of the international community including ASEAN countries and friendly countries in COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment undertakings was held at the meeting hall of the Bayintnaung Villa in Nay Pyi Taw this morning, with an address delivered by State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

 
Also present were Vice Chair-man of SAC Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, SAC member Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Minister for International Cooperation U Ko Ko Hlaing, Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Thet Khaing Win, Director of Directorate of Medical Services of the Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army) Maj-Gen Ko Ko Lwin and officials.

 
In his opening address, the Senior General said as the country is carrying out COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment undertakings with might and main, cooperation of the international community including ASEAN countries, friendly countries, UN agencies and social organizations must be cemented. International relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs represent the country. ASEAN has already set up a COVID-19 trust fund and Myanmar has made contribution to it. Necessary measures must be taken swiftly to realize cooperation and aid programs for the country in connection with prevention, control and treatment undertakings.

Decisions must be made in time and immediate action is also required in joining hands with the international community and ASEAN community. Vaccination must be extended while measures need to be taken to ensure vaccines both purchased and donated arrive as early as possible for prompt vaccinations. Relevant ministries and responsible officials also need to take speedy measures for domestic vaccination production and arrival of required medical supplies, the Senior General said.

Next, the Vice-Senior General, council members, union ministers and those in attendance reported on cooperation with ASEAN countries, partner countries and the WHO in COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment, arrivals of vaccines and links among the ministries to get more vaccines, nationwide distribution of vaccines and related accessories and vaccination processes, sending of required basic information daily in domestic production of vaccines in cooperation with Russia, offer by other countries to produce vaccines, ordering of samples for testing, cooperation with the international community, tasks for import of vaccines by private sector and vaccination and tasks to be continued. The Senior General then made a supplementary discussion.

 
In his concluding remark, the Senior General said the pandemic goes on in the international community. Control of the pandemic requires internal cooperation as well as intentional cooperation. ASEAN countries are also facing their difficulties. Officials need to try to seek part of ASEAN funds and other rights the country deserves. There is no other thing as important as health; everything the State can do must be fulfilled. This has been already said. Attention has constantly been paid to health promotion. As hospitalized patients need to have nutritious food, chicken eggs, banana and other nutritious foods are being donated to hospitals and clinics through nearby military units. When it comes to the health issue, scrupulousness is necessary and self-seeking must be avoided. Public health must be emphasized for the sake of the country. Under any circumstance, efforts must be made for the good of the country and public health. Speedy action is necessary in seeking connections with the international community, the Senior General said.
