Court proceedings in connection with cases of former president U Win Myint, former state counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and former Nay Pyi Taw Council chairman Dr Myo Aung begin

Lawsuit was filed against former president U Win Myint under section 25 of the Natural Disaster Management Law at Zabuthiri Township court for greeting and supporting in person an NLD car canvassing campaign launched with the involvement of 220 cars, 32 motorcycles and about 760 in violation of the COVID-19 orders and directives, in front of the entrance gate of Presidential Palace on 19 September 2020.

Likewise, lawsuit was filed against former state counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi under section25 of the Natural Disaster Management Law at Zabuthiri Township court for greeting, supporting and participating the above mentioned car campaign in front of her house on 19 September 2020 and for conducting a door-to-door canvasing in Shwekyabin ward, Zabuthiri Township, in violation of the COVID-19 orders and directives on 8 August 2020, and under section67 of the Telecommunications Law and section 8 of the Export and Import Law as 10 sets of illegalradio transmitting and receiving equipment (ICOMs) and a set of jammer were found at her residence during the search by security forces on 1 February 2021.

NLD central executive committee on 7 February 2021 sent letter of notification to diplomatic missions and UN and international agencies and urged them not to cooperate with the government that stagedthe military coup and declared President U Win Myint as the illegitimate government. As the said letter of notification and the announcement 6/02/21 of NLD CEC are harmful to the restoration of the State situation, lawsuit was filed against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, U Win Myint and Dr Myo Aung, who are responsible members of the CEC under section 505(b) of the penalcode at the Zabuthiri Township court.

As court proceedings in connection with the cases of U Win Myint, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Dr Myo Aung began at a separate court set up in the compound of Nay Pyi Taw Council Office on 24 May 2021, they were conveyed to the court. Before the start of the court proceeding, they were allowed to freely meet with their lawyers. Different stages of the course proceedings will follow in accord with the law.
