Egg reseller gaining profits as poultry farmers facing losses despite higher demand

Resellers of eggs are gaining benefits as egg farmers have faced loss-making business due to high price of chicken  feeds despite higher demand during the third wave of CO-VID-19, according to a poultry farmer.

“Now, egg prices are getting high but we, poultry farmers, are not gaining profits because of the high price of chick feeds. Only the resellers are gaining profits,” the farmer said.

Currently, there has been a higher demand for eggs during the ongoing spread of COVID-19 third wave. Despite the demand, the egg farmers are gaining fewer profits.  The current demand has been five times bigger than the previous demand.

Previously, chicken feed price was Ks- 32,000 for a 50 kg bag but currently, the price has increased by Ks- 8,000 for a bag to Ks-40,000. Yangon Region has produced about two million eggs a day and the whole country 10 to 12 million eggs.
