Global GAP exercised domestically in growing fruits and vegetables

Global GAP system has be-come more exercised locally in growing fruits and vegetables in Myanmar, according to the chairperson of Myanmar Chili Market and Technology Deve-lopment Association.

Usually, traditional agricultural methods and good agricul-tural practices (GAP) are used in agriculture in Myanmar. But, currently, it is learnt that the Global GAP system was appli-ed in the country to grow fruits such as mango, water melon, muskmelon, pomelo and coffee.

Of the agricultural farms exer-cising GAP, some have upgrad-ed the practice to Global GAP that is applied internationally.

Plans are being made to grow avocado domestically with Global GAP system as the fruits grown with Global GAP are saleable at a good rate of price in international markets.

Although internationally re-cognized insecticides and fertilizers can be used in exercis-ing both GAP and Global GAP practices, it is needed to use them in a correct proportion.

The documents proving such propotions of using insecticides and fertilizers are to be syste-matically kept to show them to the regulators concerned. Besides, the entire farm is to be kept clean as well as the agricultural equipment after every use.
