Head of Information Team meets press, briefs on current situation in the country

The head of Information Team of the State Administration Council, Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun, met the press at the Information Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on March 11 afternoon, regarding the current situation of the country and answered the reporters’  questions.

Before the press briefing, the officials concerned made arrangement for social distancing ruleson COVID-19 pandemic for thosewho attended the event.

At the press meet, Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun briefed on measures by the State Administration Council to ensure stability and law and order of the state, and all round devolvement of the country, situation of changingpeaceful protest into riot and theninto anarchy, the launching of CDMto disrupt transportation, services, banking and civil services to stop the administrative machinery, andthe threat of organizing people to get involved in CDM. He also briefed on instigating a movement to get the social unrest occurred through unlawful organization of CR PH,the situation of driving people on the track of civil disobedienceand all and everything destruction, the situation of forcing the youth to be on the streets, the situation of anarchic protests happened in February and early March, measures taken in accordance with the properprocedures, and measures of bringing Myanmar citizens and scholar monks from Malaysia,India andSri Lanka back to the country by Tatmadaw aircraft and vessels.

The Brig-Gen also spoke of the public difficulties in healthcaresector due to the CDM, Tatmadaw medical staff's services in militaryand people's hospitals. He also briefed on instigative movement underthe so-called name of supporting the civil servants, actions taken against the so-called fund raisers for embezzlement, revealing ofstate level corruption and misuse of funds, and the outcome of the investigation of the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation. As regards theformer president U Win Myintand the former State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and whoare now under house arrest, who have been under house arrest since 1 February 2021, he said that onfurther investigation over former regional chief ministers, the formerYangon Region Chief MinisterU Phyo Min Thein admitted that he gave Daw Aung San Suu Kyi morethan USD-600,000 and seven vissesof Academy-branded gold betweenDecember 2017 and March 2018.

On further investigation, it is learnt that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi herselfreceived the cash and kind. The anticorruption committee has launcheda necessary investigation into the cases, he said. He then explainedthe launching of investigations into corruption cases as former chiefministers Dr Zaw Myint Maung, Dr Myint Naing and Dr Aye Zan were found to have involved in corruption cases, plans to explaininvestigations by the Anti-corruption Commission into bribery cases in which former President U Win Myint and wife Daw Cho Cho received cashfrom businessmen, discrepanciesbetween election results announced by the former UEC and findings of the current UEC and a statement made by a member of the former UEC to the public with the use ofPowerPoint presentations and video clips extensively.

Then, Member U Khin Maung Oo of the current UEC explained the tasks and findings on voter’s lists with evidence.The press conference ended after member U Khin Maung Oo of the UEC , leader of the informationteam of the SAC Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun and representatives of respective departmental informationteams responded to queries raised by reporters who attended the pressconference.

Then, attendees to the press conference view round the informationabout the press conference, tasks of the current UEC, findings on voter’slists and other necessary evidence displayed for reference at the pressconference and Brig-Gen Zaw MinTun conducted round the reporters.

The press conference was attended by members of the information team of the SAC, representatives from relevant ministries, and officersfrom the Tatmadaw Information Team, invited guests and reportersfrom local news agencies, localbased foreign news agencies, dailiesand television channels.
