Sales of pearl earn more than US$-5 million in fiscal years

Myanma Pearl Enterprise (MPE)under the Ministry of  Natural Resources and Environ-mental Conservation stated that more than US$-5 million has been earned from sales of pearl in respective financial year as Myanmar’s pearl pro-duction is being operated at Myeik Archipelagos of Tanin-thayi Region.

Myanma Pearl Enterprise is operating pearl production on one State-owned island camp, conducting the joint ventures with six local businesspersons on seven island camps and four foreign companies on four island camps, totaling, said Assistant General Manager U Tin Maung Aye of MPE.

Of more than 800 islands in the archipelagos, Myanmar’s pearl culturing and production are being operated on some 30 islands. The oysters which can produce quality pieces of pearl can be alive in southern part of Southeast Asia called South Sea and Australia.

The private sector is produc-ing 80 percent of pearl and the government, 20 percent. Due to low cost and good natural conditions, Myanmar produces quality pearl getting good price in the international market.

Sales of pearl earned US$-5.7 million in its sales in 2016-2017 fiscal year, US$-6.5 million in 2017-18 FY and US$-5.3 million in 2018-2019 FY.
