Myanmar teenager crowned champion at international maths competition

A Myanmar teenager has topped the standing in a recent international mathematics competition, being crowned champion for the third time in international maths competitions.

He was crowned champion and won gold medal at the SEAMO X 2020 held in Australia on 18 January.He finished at the top among over 600 participants from 20 countries.

Maung Htet Wai Lian has won first prizes in numerous maths competition in Myanmar, and became champion for the third time in international maths competition—winning ‘The Star of the World in WMI in South Korea in 2018,World Maths Champion in WMC held in Myanmar in 2019 and World Maths Champion in SEAMO in 2020 in Australia.

He won silver award American Maths Olympiad (AMO)2016 at Grade-5 level; silver award at Maths Kangaroo in 2017; gold award at Singapore and Asian Schools Maths Olympaid 2017;gold award at American  Maths Olympaid (AMO) 2017 at Grade-6 level; silver award at Maths Kangaroo 2018; silver award at SASMO 2018; silver award at Sakamoto Maths Champion Competition 2018; gold award at AMO 2018 at Grade-7 level; gold award at Maths Kangaroo 2019; gold award at SASMO 2019; gold award at Southeast Asian Maths Olympaid (SEAMO) 2018;gold award at Thailand International Mathematical Olympaid; gold award and global ranking 1 at Hong Kong International Mathematical Olym-paid 2019; gold award at AMO 2019 at Grade-8 level, and gold award at SEAMO 2019.

He won Gold Award & World Maths Champion Award at the 16th world maths competition organized by Sakamoto Maths Myanmar and hosted by Myanmar; silver award in International Junior Mathematics Olympaid held in 2017 in Cambodia.

He won Gold Award & The Star of the World in World Mathematics Invitational Competition held in 2018 in South Korea; and silver award at Singapore International  Math Olympic Challenge 2019. He represented Myanmar in 29th AsiaPacific Children Convention in Japan’s Fukuoka.

He won full scholarship to attend Young Achievers Leadership Academy (YALA-2018), and won  student leader and leadership award at YALA 2019.
