Myanmar sends world heritage nomination for Mrauk-U

Myanmar sent the Nomination Dossier in the last week of January for putting Mrauk-U ancient cultural zone in the list of World Heritage after finalizing all the two-year preparatory works that began in 2017, according to Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library (DANML).

During the two years, local specialists of the relevant field, departmental personnel, heritage advocates, foreign specialists, the UNESCO, AICS of Italy, local people, and the members of the respective committee and the subcommittees took all the preparatory measures for Mrauk-U in northern Rakhine State to become a world heritage.  

Myanmar sent the Nomination Dossier (Draft) to the World Heritage Center of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, France in September 2019.

In so doing, the country consulted with local and foreign specialists of the field in presenting the  UNESCO criteria 3 and 4. These two criteria are presented as frequent field tours have proved that they definitely meet the international standard.

An office was opened at the Yangon branch of the Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library (DANML) where officials and employees of the branch and local and foreign specialists collectively checked and edited the Nomination Dossier (Draft) and arranged the Integrated Management Framework for the sustainable development of Mrauk-U area one month in advance for submitting the Nomination Dossier before the end of January 2020.

Foreign specialists explained the amendments of the Nomination Dossier and the Integrated Management Framework, and local and  foreign specialists and members  of the subcommittee made necessary additions to them.

Myanmar sent the Nomination Dossier after finalizing the amendments and additions to Nomination Dossier (Draft) that was presented to the World Heritage Center and the compilation of the seven points of the Section Wide Plan inclusive in the Integrated Management Framework in the fourth week of this month, according to  DANML.
