Man shot dead in warning fire as vehicle carrying stimulant tablets drives away in inspection in Maungdaw Township

A combined team tried to stop a suspected Voxy car with a number plate of MDY 5J/xxxx carrying two menheading to Maungdaw from 3rd-mile Village at the checkpoint in Maungdaw of Rakhine State while inspecting vehicles at about 11.10 am on 9 February. However, the vehicle tried to flee the scene and thosemen left the car on the entrance road to Sateehla Village. As the combined team opened a warning fire, Lin Lin Tun, 27, Rakhine/Buddhist, son of U Maung Gyee Che was hit, and died on the spot. The remaining one managed to escape.

In scrutinizing process, Voxy was unregistered one. A total of 914,550 stimulant tablets (worth about Ks-1,829.1 million based on calculation of Ks-2,000 per tablet), a mobile phone, a training driving licence card were seized from the vehicle.

The case of drug (crime) 5/2020 was opened against Lin Lin Tun (dead) and a man (under scrutiny) at Maungdaw Myoma police station in accordance with Sections 19(a)/21 of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Law. Efforts are being made to arrest the fugitive suspect in chain of the case.
