Although upgrading tasks of the exterior railroad of eastern Yangon circular line were to be completed at the end of April, there were delays due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and it is expected that the tasks will be completed at the end of May, according to Assistant Manager U Kyaw Myo Lwin of Myanma Railway Division (7).
“At first, we aimed to complete the upgrading tasks of the exterior railroad between Paywetseikgone
Station and Pazundaung Station in the eastern circular line but there were delays due to various reasons and the tasks cannot be completed as planned. It is expected that the tasks will be completed at the end of May. It is difficult to carry out the upgrading tasks of the interior railroad during the rainy season. We will be able to began the tasks in October,” he said.
Although improvement of western section of Yangon circular line from Kyimyindine Station to Phayalan Station has been completed, earth works to prevent erosion have yet to be carried out due to the changes in the design of the drainage system.
Currently, only one of the two parallel railroads is being used as the maintenance works are being carried along the other railroad in the eastern section (Kyimyindine) and the western section (Pazundaung) of the circular line. Sometimes, it is necessary to carry out maintenance tasks at night since it is difficult to do so in the day time when trains are operated.
