The Yangon International Airport has provided services for over 80 inbound flights to bring back Myanmar citizens from foreign countries and import commodities into the country during COVID-19 crisis, said an official of Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited (YACL).

The Civil Aviation Department has banned all commercial flights from landing in Myanmar since late March, and has extended the ban until the end of May. But, some domestic airlines are operating domestic flights as usual.

The Yangon International Airport receives inbound flights operated by Myanmar National Airlines and Myanmar Airways International and some other international flights to bring back Myanmar citizens from foreign countries and import commodities into the country.

“We are providing necessary services for relief, cargo, medical evacuation and special flights approved by the Civil Aviation Department. Currently, Myanmar migrant workers are being brought back from foreign countries,” said the officials.

The Yangon International Air-port handled 1.46 million travellers in the first three month of 2020, a decline by 17.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
