Nay Pyi Taw January 15
In response to a tip that AA insurgents pose as local residents and carry out operation in the village of Thayet Pyin in Rakhine State’s Buthidaung Township, border guard police with the military escort went to the village on 13 January afternoon and made queries.
Police spotted 15 suspicious-looking people and brought them in line with law to the border guard police station in Buthidaung Township where a team comprising departmental officials interrogat-
ed them. It was found that 13 of them do not have links to the AA insurgents, and were released back to their village. And administrator of Thayet Pyin Village U Maung Than Hlaing and villager Maung Kyaw Win confessed to extorting money for the AA insurgents and tracking and informing the movements of security forces to the AA. Further investigation is under way in accordance with procedures to take action against them in line with law.
The Tatmadaw column providing security in Yathedaung Township arrested U Sein Oo and U Sein Tha Kyaw, the residents of Kyein Tha Village along with two Samsung phones which they used to leak the movements of security forces to the AA, some 3,000 meters in the north of Kyein Tha Village on January 14 morning. The two will be handed over to concerned police station so that legal action can be taken against them in line with law.
The Tatmadaw columns, in collaboration with Myanmar Police Force, departmental officials and local people continue working to gather intelligence in order to prevent AA insurgents from conducting lawless, insurgent attacks and infiltrating into villages as local residents.
