72nd Anniversary Martyrs Day for 2019 observed

The 72nd Anniversary Martyrs Day for 2019 was held at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum in Bahan Township, Yangon this morning, attended by President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, daughter of General Aung San.

Also present were Patron of the Central Committee for the Obser-vance of the 72nd Anniversary Martyrs Day for 2019 Vice President U  Myint Swe, Speaker of Pyithu Hluttaw  U  T Khun Myat, Speaker of Amyotha Hluttaw Mahn Win Khaing Than, Union Chief Justice U Tun Tun Oo , Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min  Aung Hlaing, Deputy  Speaker of Pyithu Hluttaw U Tun Tun Hein,  Deputy Speaker of Amyotha Hluttaw U Aye Tha Aung, Chairman of the Central Committee for the Observance of the 72nd Anniversary Martyrs Day for 2019 Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung Ko and Union Ministers, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee Chief Minister of  Yangon Region U Phyo Min Thein, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), the commander of Yangon Command, deputy ministers, Hluttaw representatives, members of the Central Committee and the Work Committee for Observance of the 72nd Anniversary Martyrs Day for 2019, departmental officials, families of Martyrs and invited guests.

First, President U Win Myint, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, daughter of Arzani leader General Aung San, Patron of the Central Committee Vice President U Myint Swe, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U T Khun Myat, Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than, Union Chief Justice U Tun Tun Oo and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing cordially greeted family members of the martyrs at the lounge of the Martyrs’ Mausoleum. 

Next, President U Win Myint, Patron of the Central Committee Vice President U Myint Swe, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U T KhunMyat, Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than, Union Chief Justice U Tun Tun Oo, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Union Ministers laid a wreath representing the Republic of the Union of Myanmar at the tombs of General Aung San and other martyrs and saluted in two-minute silence.

Meanwhile, the Flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was flown at half-mast with the Guard of Honour firing salute guns and the military band playing in salute to the fallen soldiers.

The family members of the martyrs including nephew U Ye Aung Than on behalf of U Aung San Oo, son of General Aung San, and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, daughter of General Aung San, laid their wreaths and flower baskets at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum and shared merits. 

The Vice Chairman of the Central Committee the Chief Minister of Yangon Region and region ministers, the Speaker of Region Hluttaw and the Deputy Speaker, Hluttaw representatives and representatives of political parties laid wreaths at the mausoleum of General Aung San and martyr leaders and paid tribute.

Representatives from social organizations including Myanmar War Veterans Organization, Myanmar Fire Brigade, Myanmar Red Cross Society, Myanmar National Com-mittee for Women’s Affairs, Myan-mar Motion Picture Organization, Myanmar Music Association, Myanmar Thabin Association, Myanmar Artists and Artisans Association (Central), Myanmar Publishers and Distributers Association, Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation, and Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association laid wreaths to pay tribute to General Aung San and other martyrs at the mausoleum.

Ambassadors, Charges d’Affaires and representatives from foreign embassies to Myanmar, European Union and UN agencies to Myanmar also laid wreaths to pay tribute to General Aung San and other martyrs at the mausoleum.

The people who came en masse to the ceremony to mark the 72nd Anniversary Martyrs Day for 2019 paid their tribute in remembrance of the gratitude of General Aung San and other martyrs.
