Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing visits historic Resistance Park, Myanmar Equestrian Federation and Sports Zone

Chairman of the State Admi-nistration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by council members and joint secretary, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the Yangon Command commander and members, visited the historic Resistance Park at the corner of U Wisara Road and Dhamazedi Road in Dagon Township, Yangon Region, this morning and inspected prepa-rations for public rest and recre-ation and physical exercises within park. They were condu-cted round the park by Chief Minister U Hla Soe, Mayor U Bo Htay and officials.  
The Senior General stressed the need for systematic mainte-nance of the park for its greening and beautifying as it is a historic one for the State and the Tatma-daw, preparations for public re-creation and physical exercises in the park and reopening of the park which had been closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak on 1 November in accord with the Covid rules and disciplines. The historic Resistance Park is a landmark in Myanmar’s in-dependence struggles, and till the 60th anniversary of Armed Forces Day in 2015, yearly celebrations were made in the park. 

The park was temporarily closed to the public following the COVID-19 outbreak. As the out-break  decreases,  renovation tasks are being carried out to reopen the park. Cleaning and beautifying tasks are being implemented for the Thabye tree where independence leader General Aung San delivered a historic war speech on 27 March 1945, the Thabye tree to which the General’s horse was tied, the salute dais, the flag poles, the statue of the General and the torches, physical train-ing fields, water fountains, chil-dren’s sport grounds, archways, trees and flowers and statues. Illuminations are also being prepared. The park will reopen to the public on 1 November.     

In the evening, the Senior General and party visited the office of Myanmar Equestrian Federation and Sports Zone under the Sports and Physical Education Department, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, in Dagon Myothit (North) Township. U Aung Moe, director of Yangon Region Sports and Physical Education Depart-ment, reported on the brief history of the sports zone and establishment of sports fields.  
The Senior General gave instructions on upgrading  of sports grounds in Yangon Region for sports standard impro-vement and plans to establish modern sports grounds in Dagon  Myothit (North),  Dagon 
Myothit (South), Dagon Myothit (East) and Dagon Seikkan to-wnships and sought coordina-tion with officials concerned. He then inspected the gymnasium for the disabled and the national swimming pool in the sports zone. He left instructions on the reopening of the gymnasium for the disabled and the national swimming pool in line with the COVID-19 rules and disciplines and upgrading of the pool.
