Ceremony to present Sasana Nuggaha religious titles of State Administration Council of Republic of Union of Myanmar for 2021 held: Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing presents religious titles and insignia

Nay Pyi Taw December 1

A ceremony to present Sasana Nuggaha religious titles of the State Administration Council of the Republic of Union of Myanmar for 2021 was held at the Thabin Hall of SAC Chairman’s Office here this afternoon.

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony and conferred titles and insignia on recipients.

Also present were Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the Senior General, Vice Chairman of SAC Deputy Prime Minister ViceSenior General Soe Win and wife Daw Than Than New, SAC members and their wives, the secretary and wife, the joint secretary and wife, the Union chief justice, the chairman of Constitutional Tribunal, the chairman of Union Election Commission, Union ministers, deputy ministers, officials and laymen and laywomen title recipients.

In his keynote address, the Senior General said members of the Sangha make efforts to practice two Dhura branches of the Sasana gandhadhura and vipassanadhura – for the ever-flourishing of the teachings of Buddha. The monks are also disseminating knowledge about the dos and don’ts for the benefit of the present life and the future cycle of existence at every appropriate time. At the same time, Buddhists are providing the monks with four kinds of requisites, which are, food, robes, shelters and medicines, with an ardent wish. The State is conferring religious titles on the well-wishers every year as a support and recognition of their generosity and goodwill.

The word “Sasana Nuggaha” means “the great deeds to support the religion with four requisites.” In fact, the word has a wider definition as it expresses the true wish of the sponsors of the enormous task of preserving and perpetuating Buddhism for more than 5,000 years in accord with the “Ciramtithatusaddhammo” as stated in the treatises.

Sasana Nuggaha title recipient laypersons to be conferred must be qualified for ten kinds of laypersons—sharing richness and poorness with members of the Sangha, emphasizing the teachings of the Lord Buddha, preferring to make donations of their property, striving for flourishment of the Buddhism despite hearing to fade out the Sasana, taking good ism, enjoying unity, setting aside various isms except for the Buddhism, avoiding wicked ways to honour the Sasana and always paying homage to Three Gems. In addition, those laypersons set up medical and meal trust for providing four prerequisites to missionary months in border and hilly areas as well as those from monasteries.

They also sponsored novitiate and ordination to children from rural, border and hilly areas.

With regard to the propagation and fading out of  Buddhism, venerable monks said, that fading and flourishing of the Sasana are depending on the nature of the mundane world, similar to the flying of woodpeckers. If the government is keen to uplift the Sasana,  Buddhism is sure to develop.

Otherwise, the Sasana is likely to disappear or be down.

The State Administration Council decided to especially emphasize donations and assistance for the Sasana together with Buddhist citizens.

As noble and generous persons win the chance to develop  Buddhism and perform missionary tasks, the State Administration Council confers Sasana Nuggaha titles on the generous persons and honours them in line with the 38-auspicious prayed for Buddhist laypersons led by the State Administration Council in addition to Sasana Nuggaha title recipients to encourage promotion and propagation of unrivalled tolerance and peace Desana to influence over Myanmar as well as the world.
