NAY PYI TAW January 14

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General  Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by SAC members Admiral Tin Aung San, Mahn Nyein Maung, Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, Union ministers U Tin Htut Oo, U Khin Maung Yi, U Aung Than Oo, U Khin Yi, Dr Nyunt Pe, U Shwe Lay, Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, senior military officers from the Office of Commander-in- Chief, Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Saw Than Hlaing, visited Dawei University this morning.

The Senior General and party were welcomed by Rector of the university Dr Than Than Oo and officials. At the convocation hall, the rector presented a brief account of university’s history, staff strength, number of students in academic year 2019-2020, vaccination programs, plans to produce graduates, building of an indoor stadium and a water tank.

Union Education Minister Dr Nyunt Pe reported on annual production of  raduates by the university, essential teaching aids and structural improvement programs.

In response, the Senior General said the university was born as a regional college in 1977. Preparations should be made to observe the golden jubilee  in 2027. Universities are not the places where only the educational knowledge is taught. They are the venues were technological knowledge can be learnt. Students experience the changes while pursuing primary, middle and higher education together with their peers. After passing the matriculation examination they have to enter a new environment.

They should take the good lessons and experiences throughout their university life and should try to acquire academic and social relations knowledge that are applicable for the whole life.

A nation needs to produce a lot of human resources imbued with technical  and intellectual knowledge for development. It must increase the pass rate of students and apply the method that truly educates students.

A study shows that the drop in the matriculation pass rate is a result of the unqualified students and the gap between the matriculation question paper and high school matriculation question paper. So, students who pass their examinations must be truly educated. According to records, the country has about 10 million illiterates.

So, all school age children should be in the classes and they must have actual knowledge. The State has already opened schools and universities to  develop human resources. So, cooperation of students and parents is required to produce intellectuals and intelligentsia through education promotion.

University teachers must encourage students’ interest in actually acquiring academic and technical knowledge. They should apply the study system instead of rote learning. They must encourage students to exchange ideas and seek broader knowledge through books and self-studies. A school  should have a clean and pleasant ambience and a recreation centre for students to pursue education happily and peacefully. Universities should be provided with necessary hostels, especially for students of faraway places like Launglon and Thayetchaung.

Universities must have disaster preparatory plans and the government will provide necessary assistance. Physical and mental fitness of students must be strengthened. The country is on the road to multi-party democracy and it needs to disseminate economics and law. So, these two subjects have been added to the curriculum.

Every region and state must have a university that can confer Ph.D. that  meets international level. The teachers are recognized for promoting education level at their assigned places, and the State will look into the requirements.

The Senior General and party looked around the university and fulfilled the  requirements. During inspection of Seikkantha park in Dawei, the Senior General gave guidance for its cleanness and pleasantness.

The Senior General and party inspected the jetty of Myanmar Port Authority in Kyetsarbyin ward, Dawei and made arrangements to facilitate the work of upgrading the jetty and developing of Dawei river system and Dawei strand road.
