SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing honours Russian Deputy Minister of Defence Colonel General Alexander Vasilievich Fomin with title of performance, accepts honorary doctorate from Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences

    Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime MinisterSenior General  Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing himself conferred honorary titles and medals on the persons for their excellent performance in development, peace and prosperity of the State in commemoration of the 75th Anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) Independence Day 2023 at the ceremonies where those title recipients attended on 1 and 2 January.

As some recipients missed the chance to attend the honorary conferring ceremony or send their representatives to the ceremony for various reasons, relevant region and state chief ministers and commanders of military commands presented the titles.

A honorary titles and insignia conferring ceremony took place at the parlour of Zeyathiri Beikman in Nay Pyi Taw today, attended by the Senior General, SAC Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Zeya Kyaw Htin Sithu Ye Win Oo, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Zeya Kyaw Htin Sithu Moe Aung, Commander-in- Chief (Air) General Zeya Kyaw Htin Sithu Tun Aung, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and officials, Russian Deputy Minister for Defence Colonel General Alexander Vasilievich Fomin, Russian Federation Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Nikolay LISTOPADOV, Military Attaché Colonel Sergey KURCHENKO, President of Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dr. Professor Vitaly Vyacheslavovich NAUMKIN and officials.

Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Zeya Kyaw Htin Toe Yi read the order of conferring the title. Then, the Senior General presented Thiri Pyanchi title and insignia to Russian Deputy Minister for Defence Colonel General Alexander Vasilievich Fomin for his excellent performance to cooperation in development, peace and prosperity of the State.

With regard to clarification to confer the honorary doctorate, the president of the institute said he took much pride in honouring the Senior General.

He learned Myanmar language, Myanmar history and cultural traditions in last decades.

Professors and he are interestingly studying matter related to Myanmar at the most longlasting and largest Institute of Oriental Studies established in the reign of His Majesty Russian Tsar Alexander I of Russia in 1818. Under the leadership of the Senior General, political transparency based on national unity, development of socioeconomic life, and justice is vividly seen in Myanmar. The country is having improvement of sectoral cooperation and relations with Russian Federation including science and technological sector. The Institute has decided to cooperate with Myanmar.

The Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences unanimously decided to confer the honorary doctor degree on the Senior General for his excellent performances in sectoral cooperation and development measures including humanitarian and sought the approval to confer the degree on the Senior General.

Then, the president of the institute conferred the honorary doctorate on the Senior General, and the Senior General accepted the degree.

The Russian deputy minister for Defence said he was honoured and grateful for receiving the title presented by the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

He said he was awarded not because of his own performance but because of inclusive cooperation.

He then vowed to continue efforts to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation and relations and make a greater effort in the way he deserved to be awarded such a title. The diplomatic ties between the two countries have turned 75 years.

From the moment Myanmar New Year falls, he wished, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar under the leadership of the SAC Chairman Prime Minister to achieve great success and progress, the deputy minister said.

Giving an honorary speech and words of thanks for obtaining a honorary doctorate, the Senior General said he was very delighted to have presented the Russian deputy minister for defence with a Thiri Pyanchi title and insignia. It is a title that is conferred on those who served for the good of the Union of Myanmar. The Russian deputy minister was awarded that title for his assistance in serving the interests of Myanmar and its people and modernizing Myanmar’s Tatmadaw as well as in further cementing the friendship and cooperation between Russia and Myanmar.

His effort has led to the highest level cooperation between the two countries and the two militaries.

The Senior General continued that he was very glad to receive an honorary doctorate from Oriental Studies Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences,

which is established with the aim of doing research on histories, languages, literatures, economic, social, racial and cultural affairs of the countries of Asia and North Africa.

For its high performance to produce skilled trainees, the institute is said to be awarded Order of the Red Banner of Labour in 1980. Russia has trained a lot of literati, scientists and those expert in arts from its universities and schools including this institute. It also tops the science and technology of the world. He said he was very delighted to receive an honorary doctorate from the Oriental Studies Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences.

Many Myanmar citizens have also studied at various universities in Russia and obtained high degrees. A lot more are also studying in Russia now.

The Senior General said continued efforts will be made for greater cooperation in the military technology between the two armed forces, education, science and culture as well as in other multilateral sectors.

Then, the Senior General and the Russian deputy minister and the president of Oriental Studies Institute exchanged gifts.

After the ceremony, the Senior General and the Russian deputy minister posed for a documentary photo together with those present and cordially greeted each other.
