Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspects Kengtung Airport upgrading programs and Kengtung Hawnan replica building project

    Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by SAC Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, SAC members, union ministers, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and officials, inspected Kengtung Airport upgrading programs and Kengtung Hawnan replica construction in Kengtung, Shan State (East) this evening.

On arrival in Kengtung, the Senior General and party were welcomed by Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Zaw Aye, Triangle Region Command Commander Maj-Gen Ni Lin Aung and officials.

At the airport briefing hall, Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San, Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Kyaw Swa Lin, and Director of Directorate of Military Engineers Brig-Gen Zaw Naing Oo reported on brief history of the airport and its functions, runway and airport upgrading programs. In response, the Senior General said Kentung in a faraway place is the principal city of Shan State (East). Kengtung has a pleasant natural environment formed with lakes, mountains and forests. It has many wonderful destinations like Pankwe Village Buddha Park and Loihwe hill resort. Domestic jet flights are now transporting passengers to faraway places of the country. Hence, the airport must be upgraded so that large jet planes used in domestic flights can touch down at it. Moreover, the airport should handle direct flights from neighbouring countries, Laos, China and Thailand.

The aim of the project is to develop Kengtung’s tourism industry and support local socialeconomic domestic.

Afterwards, the Senior General and party inspected the progress in implementing airport and runway extension works and looked into the requirements.

Afterwards, the Senior General and party inspected progress in erecting a replica of ancient Kengtung Hawnan on the plot adjacent to its compound and park near Nongtong Lake and facilitated the work through work coordination.

The Senior General then observed Nongtong Lake conservation project. The director of DME and an official of local field engineer unit reported on water inflow and outflow of the lake, used of environment friendly methods in pumping out silt, methodization of the dredging work by using Sonic water Level meter, and water purification programs that use modern equipment and machinery.

After giving guidance, the Senior General looked around the lake ring road.
