Illegal timber logs seized in Taungup Township continuously handed over to Forest Department

The information was released on 6 November that security troops seized timber smuggling ships and motor schooners and illegal timber logs from 11 sites from 17 to 24 October acting on a tip-off that illegal timber smuggling boats hide themselves in rivers and creeks flowing into the western sea in Taungup Township of Rakhine State to send these timber to foreign countries.

While preparing for handing over the seized illegal timber logs, security troops seized about 1,500 more assorted timber logs stockpiled near the origin of Taungyin Creek on 8 November.

Among the seized timber logs, 894.24 estimated tons of timber logs (worth about Ks-2,265.5 million of estimated value) were handed over to Taungup Township Forest Department till 6 November and 732.9791 estimated tons of timber logs (worth about Ks-1,636.8 million of estimated value) to the same department till 18 November. So far, 1,627.2191 tons of seized illegal timber logs (worth about Ks-3,902.3 million of estimated value) has been handed over to the department to date.

Arrangements are being made to continuously hand over more than 10,000 remaining seized illegal timber logs.
