Nay Pyi Taw December 22

The opening ceremony of the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education's Inter-Education Degree College Sports Competition for the 2023-2024 academic year was held this afternoon at Wunna TheikdhiStadium (A) in Nay Pyi Taw with an address by Chairman of the Education, Health and Human Resource Development Committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win.

Also present at the ceremony SAC members, Union level persons, Union ministers, senior military officers, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, directors general and officials, rectors, principals from various education degree colleges, sports team leaders, managers, coaches and sports athletes.

In his speech, the Vice-Senior General said that sport is a kind of taken show the reflects the health and fitness, great diligence, unity, cooperation and discipline of a nation or a race. The first benefit of doing sports is personal health and fitness. Through the habit of playing with the team, unity among themselves, in other words, achieves a collective spirit. And through this, nationalistic spirit will flourish more, thereby bringing national dignity and pride.

Today's youth, who will lead the country in the future, need to be equipped with five strengths. "In accordance with the motto "Multi-Vocational Education", it is necessary to bring forth students who are healthy, strong and academically excellent.

It is physical sports that can effectively support high education and fitness. Youth and sports, youth and education and youth and sports and education are inseparable. Therefore, the SAC upgraded the Ministry of Sports to the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

This education degree college level competition will include football (male), volleyball (male) (female), speak takraw (male) and track & filed. The intereducation degree college sports competition has been held at the central level in Nay Pyi Taw since last year. Through intramural sports competitions of various education degree colleges in upper and lower Myanmar zones, they competed step by step and then reached the central level.

What is special about this year is that instead of team selection at the zone level, selections were made from all the students who competed at the zone level and competed at the central level.

By holding degree college level, zone level and central-level sports events, students interact with each other developing affection and harmony in addition to gaining regional knowledge, they will also emerge as teachers of basic education who excel in sports. In other words, we will be able to produce multitalented teachers who rely on education and sports skills for basic education.

As a result of these university/college-level sports competitions, we have seen the emergence of outstanding athletes from the country's prestigious universities and colleges in all ages. In the post-war Yangon University football team's elites, College Gin Nay Win, Tun Kyi, Aung Khin, Kenneth Shein, Tin Maung,Soe Myint, Saw Oo, Maung Pyone, Maung Maung, Ngwe Gaing, John Tint, Benny Tin Aung, Khin Maung Win and Khin Maung Zaw were famous players who played in the adult national team. Goalkeeper Jason was chosen as the Myanmar national team by the Yangon University national team. In 1966, the Asian Games were held in Thailand. It was held in Bangkok that the Myanmar national football team won the gold medal by defeating the Iranian team in the final. Kyaw Han, Aye Tun, San San Pe and Phyu Phyu Zaw participated in volleyball and Nyan Min in basketball in international competitions as Myanmar national teams.

Tin Maung Ni, who won two gold medals at the 1962 Asian Games, and Nanda Kyaw Swa, who won three gold medals at the Yangon Peninsula Games in 1969, were university swimming athletes who won many medals. In badminton from Maung Hla, Kyaw Tun and Myint Myint Khin (Mandalay) to Mya Lay Sein are Myanmar national team badminton players from universities. Therefore, I would like to encourage them to work hard as we believe that the country's elite athletes will emerge from multi-sport competitions of such universities and education colleges.

Sports is a competition that utilizes physical strength and intellectual strength, so it creates a strong spirit of never losing. Besides, it is not just a matter of winning and losing, but fair play by participating in competitions with a clean and correct method and full of sportsmanship. And that will bring about good habits such as justice, mental strength and mutual respect.

Moreover, as sports rest on six basic factors such a fitness, strength, speed, skills, endurance and team spirit, such qualities must always be improved further and further. As achievement in the sport field reflects the development of the country, athletes are urged to make relentless efforts to be ones who improve the image of the country and race with the aim of being ones  who can repay the gratitude of the country and race.

In improving the image of education degree colleges and the country with the efforts of student athletes, students are required to be athletes who are recognized as ones who play fairly according to the rules out of the spirit of "Dive until you reach the sand, climb until you reach the top" and "Never lower the flag even when you are alone on the boat."

Youth athletes are urged to compete out of mutual respect, friendship, helpfulness and camaraderie. All of you are urged to take part in sport training and competitions out of openness, endurance, forgiveness, patience, awareness and efforts.

In conclusion, the Vice-Senior General said it is hoped that you all are athletes who can bring many honorary medals to your respective education degree colleges, that the education degree colleges can continue to stand as prestigious ones and that future teachers can try to improve themselves to be all-round outstanding ones and opened the Inter-education colleges sport competitions 2023-2024.

Then, youth athletes from education degree colleges relayed and raised the commemorative flag of the sports competition and made the sport pledges.

Then, the Vice-Senior General and party cordially greeted the competing teams, managers, instructors, coaches and athletes of the competitions.

Afterward, the Vice-Senior General and party, together with attendees, enjoyed the fitness dances, demonstration of Myanmar traditional martial arts, shawl dances, Myanmar Chinlone demonstration and aerobic demonstration of students from Meiktila, Hlegu and Taungoo education colleges.

The sport competition is being held at the Wunnatheikdi Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw from 22 to 26 December and a total of 800 students from education colleges are participating in the event.
