Delegation led by Special Envoy of Japanese Government for National Reconciliation in Myanmar and Chairman of Nippon Foundation of Japan cordially meets with local people in Kyauktaw, Buthidaung townships of Rakhine State, holds press conference

A delegation led by H.E. Mr. Yohei SASAKAWA, Special Envoy of the Japanese Government for National Reconciliation in Myanmar and Chairman of Nippon Foundation of Japan, met with local people in Kyauktaw and Buthidaung townships today.

The Special Envoy of the Japanese Government for National Reconciliation in Myanmar and Chairman of Nippon Foundation of Japan and party, accompanied by Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Ichiro MARU YAMA, Commander of Western Command Maj-Gen Htin Latt Oo and members, arrived in Kyauktaw by Tatmadaw helicopter and met with local people at downtown market in Kyauktaw and Peinnechaung Village cordially.

Then, they also met with local people at the port of Buthidaung Township, the office of Inland Water Transport, Myoma market and the residence of Ywama Village Administrator respectively.

At the meetings, the Special Envoy of the Japanese Government for National Reconciliation in Myanmar and Chairman of Nippon Foundation of Japan cordially asked local people about economic, education, health and social matters, current local armed conflicts and wishes of locals for holding the election.

Local people expressed their wish to mitigate armed conflicts and to hold the election in their areas as it is rights of citizens. On arrival back in Sittway, the Special Envoy of the Japanese Government for National Reconciliation in Myanmar and Chairman of Nippon Foundation of Japan met with Speaker of Rakhine State Hluttaw U San Kyaw Hla and Chairman of Arakan National Party-ANP U Tha Tun Hla at Sittway Hotel discussed situations to hold the by-election and a plan of Nippon Foundation to donate foods and necessary aid worth US$-200,000 to internally displaced persons.

At the hotel, the Special Envoy of the Japanese Government for National Reconciliation in Myanmar

and Chairman of Nippon Foundation of Japan held a press conference attended by about 15 media persons and replied to questions asked by media persons.
