A new overbridge on Mingyi Lan Street which will link Insein  Overbridge No.2 is now completed  by 85 percent, and construction of the whole bridge is expected  to complete in September, accor- ding to the Bridge Construction Office.

“The bridge is completed by 85 percent. There were some delays due to COVID-19. But, we are wor-

king to finish by September. Bored piles have been erected and girders have been fixed. We will do the construction works at night in order not to disturb the traffic,” said engineer U Maung Cho of Myanma Railways(MR).

A 1 Construction Co.,Ltd won the tender to construct the overbridge. It has so far fixed steel box girders to bored piles, and do concrete slabs, mark lanes, build pavements, fix and paint hand rails  before making final touches to the bridge. The company expects to complete construction process around the end of September.

Construction of the overbridge started in 2018-2019 fiscal year. The  bridge links Insein Railway Over-bridge across Baho Street. The overbridge is 441 feet long and the approach road is 123 feet long. The overbridge is a 16-feet-wide one-lane facility, flanked by pavements on both sides. The maximum clearance is 18 feet. It was built at a cost of Ks-1,910 million.

“Commuters who come from the direction of Insein Market can’t go to Mingyi Lan Street via Insein-Overbridge. They can only go to Baho Street. If they want to go to Mingyi Lan Street, they have to go  until the end of the Insein Overbridge and turn around and walk  back to Mingyi Lan Street. This has created hassle for commuters. So, as we have built a new overbridge as an auxiliary of Insein Overbridge, commuters from Hlaingthaya and Insein can easily go to Insein Hospital,  court,  GTI  and  other places which are on Mingyi Lan Street,” he said.

The overbridge is being constructed with funds from girder work-shop(Ma Hlwa Gone), Engineering Department of Myanma Railways under the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
