Four police members injured in assault of disturbance-makers

After the declaration of the state of emergency on 1 February 2021, disturbances occurred in some cities of the country. As it is assumed that disturbances can harm the State peace and stability, public security, the rule of law and community peace and trigger melees, Article 144 of Criminal Procedure was imposed, and prohibited any gatherings of five or more persons.

About 20,000 demonstrators gathered at the place on 38th street between 76th x 78th streets in Mahaaungmye Township in Mandalay Region included in the townships, where curfew is in force, this morning. They shouted slogans and staged a demonstration causing a melee.

When members of Myanmar Police Force requested the crowd to disperse, they scolded back, threw objects at police members and said provocative words. Hence, the police members had to disperse the crowd in accord with the legal procedures to stop violence. About 2,000 of demonstrators violently assaulted the police with rocks and stones and other objects that could cause injuries.

Four police members were injured and security vehicles were damaged by the fierce attack. Members of  Myanmar Police Force are conducting security duties day and night in accord with the law to prevent the occurrence of disturbances.
