Press Team of State Administration Council meets media at press conference

Leader of the Press Team of the State Administration Council Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun held a press conference on current political progress at the Ministry of Information this afternoon and replied to queries raised by media.

Before the press conference, officials performed medical tests on those attendees for prevention of COVID-19 and gave seats to them in designated distance.

Next, Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun, leader of the Press Team of the State Administration Council, xplained releasing of findings scrutinized by the Tatmadaw over the 2020 election for enabling officials at different levels to address such issue in accord with the procedures and laws, holding of the National Defence and Security Council on 1 February and declaring the State of Emergency for the country in accordance with Section 417 of the Constitution (2008), assuming the legislative, executive and judicial powers of the State by the Tatmadaw in line with Section 418 (a), and aim of assuming the State power to just control the implementation of genuine, fair multi-party democracy without derailment.

The leader of the Press Team further explained that formation of the State Administration Council, clarification of Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on various situations of the State to the people, implementation of five future tasks adopted as goal by the State Administration Council, holding separate meetings with Union ministers, officials of Union level bodies, members of State Administration Council, entrepreneurs from Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and associates, patron, chairman and officials of Myanmar Banks Association, chairmen and officials of private banks, those from Nay Pyi Taw Council, Region or State Administration Councils and Self-Administered Division or Zone Administration Bodies, and discussions on resurgence of all sectors of the country.

He also explained the release of prisoners under orders of an amnesty granted by the State Administration Council Chairman, arrival of COVID-19 vaccines, vaccinations and permission for import of COVID-19 vaccines in line with the regulations, healthcare and treatment for the national people transferred by the Ministry of Health and Sports to Tatmadaw hospitals, sanitation and beautifying tasks carried out by Tatmadaw members at the pagodas and stupas across the country for the convenience of pilgrims and temporary banning pilgrimage to these pagodas and stupas due to outbreak of COVID-19, reopening of religious buildings for public worshipping of their respective faiths and doing meritorious deeds in accord with the COVID-19 guidelines starting from 8 February and the Tatmadaw’s providing of rice, cooking oil and foodstuff for the people not to face difficulty for their meals amid the COVID-19 restrictions.

He continued to explain that at present protests break out in some major towns of the country. As these protests can trigger a melee, aside from harming the State stability and peace, public security, rule of law and community peace, the Article 144 of the Criminal Procedure has been imposed and banned any gathering of five people and above. But violent attacks against Tatmadaw members and members of Myanmar Police Force, who were trying to prevent the occurrence of disturbances in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Yangon, Mawlamyine, Myitkyina and Pathein, and cars and drivers of social welfare associations occurred. Security forces are serving duties day and night to maintain peace and stability in the respective regions and states. In the time of the State Administration Council, the Union Election Commission has been issuing press releases. The government has been issuing announcements for the civil service personnel who are absent from work for various reasons through a powerpoint presentation and with the help of video clips.

He then gave answers to the questions raised by the reporters from news agencies. The press conference then came to an end.

Present at the press conference were members of the Press Team of the State Administration Council, officials of Tatmadaw Information Team, invited guests and reporters of local news agencies, dailies, local TV stations and local-based foreign news agencies.
