Press release issued on confession of Say Paing Construction Company owner U Maung Waik on Chair of National League for Democracy Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

The press conference held by the Information Team of the State Administration Council on 11 March
2021 has clarified that former chief minister U Phyo Min Thein of Yangon Region presented USD 600,000 and seven visses of Academy brand gold (11.431 kilogrammes) to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

As further investigation was conducted over necessary Union level departmental heads and businesspersons related to them, the confession of U Maung Waik, owner of Say Paing Construction Company, was known as follow:-

I am U Maung Waik, the owner of Say Paing Construction Company. I established my construction company in 2014 and it is still running  today. Meanwhile, I donated and supported in cash to the respective cabinet members of government for the goodness of my businesses. In 2017, one of my company staff introduced Daw Khin May Oo to me. She was working at Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s house. Around May, 2018, I paid respect to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi at her house through the help of Daw Khin May Oo. At that time, I gave a black envelope which includes USD 100,000 to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for Daw Khin Kyi Foundation in front of the families of U Kyaut San and U Hla Myo. Also in 2019, I gave a black envelope which includes USD 150,000 to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi herself at her house. In February, 2020, again, I gave USD 50,000 to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi at her house.In April, I met with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and gave USD 250,000 to her. There were no witnesses in those cases.

According to the confession, U Maung Waik presented USD 100,000 to Chair of National League for Democracy (NLD) Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in May 2018 for the first time, USD 150,000 in May 2019 for the second time, USD 50,000 in February 2020 for the third time and USD 250,000 in April 2020 for the fourth time, totalling USD 550,000 in person.

As preliminary scrutiny proved that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi com-mitted briberies according to the confession of Say Paing Construction Company owner U Maung Waik, the Anti-Corruption Commission is performing investigation to take action against her in accord with the Anti-Corruption Law.
