Nay Pyi Taw  November  12

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met with officers, other ranks and their families from Hmawby Station in Yangon Command at the local airbase hall this afternoon.

Also present were Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Maung Maung Kyaw, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and Yangon Command Commander Brig-Gen Nyunt Win Swe.

Speaking on the occasion, the  Senior General said the main duty  of the militaries in various global countries is to protect State sovereignty. With this end, it is necessary to promote defence power and capacity of those militaries. In Myanmar’s Tatmadaw also, successive Tatmadaw leaders have tried to promote defence power and develop human resources and sources for military equipment amid difficul-ties. Currently, better defence power has been built up, and continued efforts are being made to make it excellent, he said.

The Senior General stressed the need for systematically combined operation of the three major tasks for general staff, adjutant and quartermaster in building a modern, capable Tatmadaw. He said units and regiments need to do correct training so they can be equipped with high combat skills and power. The Tatmadaw is trying to sharpen the combat skills and powers of Tatmadaw members while fulfilling the needs for the health and welfare of Tatmadaw members and their families. Meanwhile, leaders at different levels need to emphasize fair governance and welfare for their subordinates. As discipline is the backbone of the Tatmadaw, servicemen must be well disciplined even in small matters. Individuals must follow the adopted rules and disciplines and do correct things for the sake of themselves and for the improved skills of their own units. Code of dress must also be systematic and military uniforms have been made in particular colour and type. Tatmadaw factories are also making and distributing civilian clothes at fair prices.

As regard adjutant affairs, measures are taken for carrying out matters ranging from the promotion to the retirement of personnel appropriately and smoothly by issuing procedures, rules and regulations. As for quartermaster affairs, buildings, roads and fences of regiments and units are built for the security and high living standards of the families of the Tatmadaw. In order to fulfil the nutritional requirements, appropriate ration money and rations are provided and agriculture and livestock breeding tasks are carried out. As the Tatmadaw fulfils the food, clothing and shelter needs of the personnel as much as possible, servicemen are required to behave in accordance with the good practices of military personnel.

The Tatmadaw always encourages the educational development of personnel, their spouses and their children consistently. Projects have been implemented to enable personnel and their spouses who failed to enjoy opportunities to learn basic education due to various reasons to continue their basic education since  the  2012-2013  academic year. Measures have been taken to promote the education of offspring of personnel and war veterans by organizing ceremonies to honour outstanding students since 2013.

In order to provide international experience, foreign trips have been  arranged for selected outstanding students. During the period from  2012 to 2019, gold medals and cash  rewards worth more than Ks-6.8 billion have been offered as outstanding awards and scholarships while efforts are being made to promote the education of members of the Tatmadaw.

As the leaders of the Tatmadaw take measures for the welfare of personnel, officers, other ranks and families of the Tatmadaw are required to build internal unity seriously and take part in training to enhance the three capabilities of the Tatmadaw.
