Led by State Administration Council member Union Minister for Defence General Mya Tun Oo, Department of International and Internal Affairs Director General Colonel Nyein Chan and officials attended the eig-hth ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus), organized by ASEAN alternate chair Brunei Darussalam through video conferencing in the meeting hall of the Ministry of Defence today.
It was attended by ASEAN defence ministers, defence ministers, deputy defence ministers and defence-related high ranking officers from ASEAN Plus countries: Aust-ralia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia and the United States and the ASEAN secretary general.
At the meeting, the Union Minister discussed Myanmar’s perspectives on defence and security, current changes and developments in Myanmar, cooperation in the changing defence and security issues in the region, response measures for Covid-19 pandemic, rescue work for natural disasters, the Myanmar-Russia co-chaired ongoing counterterrorism un-dertakings within the ADMM-Plus framework and measures to be continued.
After the meeting, the ASEAN member countries and ASEAN Plus countries agreed to hold ADMM-Plus yearly instead of every two years.
Moreover, the Bandar Seri Begawan Declaration of ADMM- Plus was issued online in com-memoration of the 15th founding anniversary of ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting to stre-ngthen cooperation between ASEAN countries and plus countries and create a futurere-ady, peaceful and prosperous ASEAN community.
