Following the example of Yangon Zoo, Yadanarbon Zoo in Mandalay has introduced animal adoption program for animal lovers.
People can adopt lion, elephant, hippo, zebra, tiger, camel and croco-dile for one to six months, according to zoo manager U Thein Myint Aung.
“We will issue certificate of adop-tion to those who adopt animals from our zoo. Those who have adopted a particular animal will be allowed to enter the zoo for free,” he said.
It will cost Ks-660,000 to adopt a lion for month; Ks-610,000 to adopt an elephant for month, Ks-56,000 to adopt a crocodile for a month: Ks-130,000 to adopt a hippo for a month, Ks-700,000 to adopt a tiger; Ks-150,000 to adopt a zebra, and Ks-240,000 to adopt a camel.
The Yangon Zoo launched animal adoption program in August, as a means of raising funds to help care for its animals as the zoo is close to the public during COVID-19 lockdown.
Yadanarbon Zoo is home to 35 species of mammals, 51 species of birds, 13 species of reptiles, with a total of 1,263 animals.
