Yadanarbon Zoo introduces animal adoption program

Following the example of Yangon Zoo, Yadanarbon Zoo in Mandalay has introduced animal adoption program for animal lovers.

People can adopt lion, elephant, hippo, zebra, tiger, camel and croco-dile for one to six months, according to zoo manager U Thein Myint Aung.

“We will issue certificate of adop-tion to those who adopt animals from our zoo. Those who have adopted a particular animal will be allowed to enter the zoo for free,” he said.

It will cost Ks-660,000 to adopt a lion for month; Ks-610,000 to adopt an elephant for month, Ks-56,000 to adopt a crocodile for a month: Ks-130,000 to adopt a hippo for a month, Ks-700,000 to adopt a tiger; Ks-150,000 to adopt a zebra, and Ks-240,000 to adopt a camel.

The Yangon Zoo launched animal adoption program in August, as a means of raising funds to help care for its animals as the zoo is close to the public during COVID-19 lockdown.

Yadanarbon Zoo is home to 35 species of mammals, 51 species of birds, 13 species of reptiles, with a total of 1,263 animals.
