Myanmar, Thailand border trade reaches $225.78 mln in FY2021-22

BILATERAL border trade between Myanmar and Thailand reached over US$ 225.78 million as of 22 October in 2021 mini-budget year (October- March), according to the Ministry of Commerce’s report.
The country’s export to Thailand totalled $134.29 million while its import shared $91.48 million during the period. This financial year’s figures increased by 30.35 billion U.S. dollars, compared to the same period in the last fiscal year.
During the early 2021 mini- budget year, the Myawady border checkpoint topped with $141.86 million of bilateral trade. Myanmar mainly conducts border trade with neighbouring Thailand through seven border checkpoints - Tachilek, Myawady, Kawthoung, Myeik, Hteekhee, Mawtaung and Maese borders.
The country’s agricultural and fishery products are exported to Thailand while cosmetics, food products and machinery and raw industrial goods such as cement and fertilizers are imported.
Thailand is Myanmar’ second-largest trade partner and third-largest foreign investor.
