11th press conference of Information Team of State Administration Council held

The information team of the State Administration Council held the 11th press conference at the Ministry of Information here this afternoon, and leader of the team Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, Union Election Commission member U Khin Maung Oo, departmental spokespersons and representatives from departmental information teams answered the questions raised by the media.

Before the press conference, responsible officials made health checks and seating arrangements for those in attendance in accord with the COVID-19 preventive rules. 

First, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun clarified on the working visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech  Akka  Moha  Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN to Myanmar  on  7  and  8  January, diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Cambodia, the issuance of the discussions between the two leaders and joint press releases, outside interferences that can impact Myanmar’s relations with the international community and the regional countries, the announcement of ceasefire with the ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) till February 2022 and plans to extend the ceasefire till the end of the year, conditions for taking steps towards the peace to achieve eternal peace nationwide to further streng then the national sovereignty as the Independence Day that falls on 4 January 2023 will be the diamond jubilee and this year will be the pre-diamond jubilee, already inviting of all parties concerned for peace talks and constant measures for the peace process, strengthening of bilateral friendship and multisectorial cooperation during the 71 years of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar, economic measures for improving bilateral trade and speedy commodity flow by reopening the border gates, facilitating bilateral payments and accounts and direct payments of Yuan/Kyat to reduce reliance on US dollar and exchange rate risk, reports of SARS- CoV-2 Variant Omicron casesin Myanmar, constant measures for COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment, disturbances from terrorist organizations in the name of NUG, CRPH and PDF despite the SAC’s efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic to a certain degree to prevent any delays in human resource development of future generations and focus on education promotion amid various difficulties such as CDM.

Next, the clarification continued on violent incidents commi-tted by the terrorist organizations NUG and PDF, attacks on security forces by taking nonmilitary targets as cover such as buildings, government offices, educational  institutions  and religious buildings and using innocent local people as human shields, violations of the Geneva Convention and committing of war crime, threats and killings of people and lootings, committing of terrorist acts according to the confession of the arrested NLD member Phyo Zeya Thaw, terrorist acts being committed by the terrorist groups named NUG and PDF, security forces’ measures to handle the incidents, arrests and seizure of arms, ammunition and accessories and confessions made by Phyo Zeya Thaw with the use of PowerPoint presentation and video clips. 

Then, UEC member U Khin Maung Oo clarified on progress in the inspection of the lists of legitimate political parties, the process of the 2020 general election, taking of actions against those who got involved in vote rigging and irregularities, holding of discussions between the UEC and political parties regarding electoral system, compiling of voter lists, review and amendment of the law and bylaws and continued processes including appointment of new staff with the use of PowerPoint presentation. 

Then,  reporters  from  the news agencies raised questions, which were answered by Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, UEC member U Khin Maung Oo and representatives from the departmental information teams. The press conference then came to a close. 

On display at the press conference were the facts about the press briefing for media reference, scenes of terrorist acts committed by NUG and PDF, ongoing activities of the UEC and press releases. Those in attendance viewed and studied them.

Members of the SAC’s information team, representatives from various ministries, officials from the Tatmadaw Information Team, guests and reporters from local news agencies, daily newspapers, local TV broadcasting stations and foreign news agencies based in Myanmar covered the press conference.
