Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspects Kahmyawkin Bridge Construction Project

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by members Admiral Tin Aung San and Mahn Nyein Maung and Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo of the SAC, union ministers U Tin Htut Oo, U Khin Maung Yi, U Aung Than Oo, U Khin Yi, Dr Nyunt Pe and U Shwe Lay, Chief Minister of Taninthayi Region U Myat Ko, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Saw Than Hlaing and officials, inspected the Kahmyawkin Bridge Construction Project this morning.
First, Union Minister for Construction U Shwe Lay reported to the Senior General on the construction, upgrading and maintenance of Phayagyi- Mawlamyine- Dawei-Myeik-Bokpyin road and Laynyar-Yadanabon road and Dawei(SEZ)-Myitta- Htikhi road, Dawei ring road and Htonkha- Thephyumawtaung road, the construction of the new bridge on Dawei- Kahmyawkin-Longlon road, completion of construction task in respective fiscal years, the construction of bridges longer than 180 feet in the region and upgrading rural roads for traveling all the year round.
After hearing the reports, the Senior General pointed out the needs to carry out proper ground tasks for the longer durability of roads as the region gets a lot of rain, saying that roads are mainly damaged by rain and it is important to build proper drainage systems and to cover roads with tree branches to allow least amount of rain hits the road. It is necessary to properly designate road areas, to carry out maintenance tasks for road shoulders for prevention of traffic accidents and to put motorcycle roads into consideration in construction of roads as there are about six million motorcycles in the country.
It is necessary to set speed limits and to build guard posts at the corners of roads to prevent traffic accidents. In the construction of bridges, it is important to build them in accordance with their standards for their strength and durability.
In the construction of rural roads, it is essential to build them systematically to enable them to withstand weather conditions and it is important to maintain proper rural roads for the transportation operation of the residents.
Then, the Senior General inspected the construction site of the bridge and attended to the needs of reports presented by Union Minister U Shwe Lay and officials.
The reinforced concrete bridge is located on Dawei- Kahmyawkin-Longlon road over the Dawei River and is 1,050 feet long, 24 feet wide. It also has a five-foot wide pedestrian lane and 164-foot wide waterway and is 16 feet high above the water. Construction tasks of the bridge started on 16 February 2021 and is scheduled to complete in March 2023.
