Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla pay obeisance to Lawka Nanda Landmark Pagoda of Sittwe, offer Waso robes, alms to members of Sangha

NAY PYI TAW July 11

    Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, accompanied by the entourage, the chief minister of Rakhine State, the commander of the Western Command and officials, paid obeisance to the Lawka Nanda Landmark Pagoda of Sittwe in Rakhine State this morning.

The Senior General and wife and party were greeted by members of the pagoda board of trustees. Then, the Senior General and wife and party paid obeisance to a Buddha image in the pagoda and offered flowers, water and lights to it.

Then, the Senior General and wife and party offered Waso robes, rice and alms to Sayadaws in Sittwe and received the five precepts from members of the Sangha led by State Ovadacariya Presiding Nayaka Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Gantha Vacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Nandasiri of the Nanda Rama Pariyatti Buddhist Learning Monastery in Sittwe.

After meditating on the metta sutta paritta delivered by members of the Sangha, the Senior General and wife and party offered Waso robes, rice and alms to the presiding Sayadaw.

Then, Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo and members General Mya Tun Oo, Dr Aung Kyaw Min and Lt-Gen Yar Pyae of the SAC, union ministers, the Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief offered alms to members of the Sangha.

Afterward, the Senior General and wife and party took Anumodana sermon delivered by Township Ovadacariya Presiding Nayaka Agga Maha Saddhama Jotika Dhaja Agga Maha Gantha Vacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Nannavamsa and shared merits.

The ceremony concluded with the three-time recitation of Buddhasasanam Ciram Thitthatu.

Afterward, the Senior General and party proceeded to the ancient historic U Ye Kyaw Thu Monastery in Sittwe and paid obeisance and offered alms and cash donations to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Jotipala.

Then, the Senior General supplicated information about the damage caused by Cyclone Mocha and addressed formally about repair tasks to the Sayadaw.

Then, the Senior General and party inspected damage in the monastery and at the Sakyamuni Pagoda Ordination Hall. The Senior General gave instructions on renovation of the monastery in its original style as it is an historic one, the need to repair the roof of the Sakyamuni Pagoda Ordination  Hall as a priority, to keep the precinct of the pagoda clean and tidy and to take other necessary measures to officials.
