Operators of Illegal online gambling and scams (Kyar Phyant) in Mongha area in Mongyai Township, Shan State (North) detained, to be handed over to relevant countries after launching necessary investigations

The government has been actively exposing and taking action against crimes of illegal online gambling and scam operations (Kyar Phyant) in cooperation with the international community. Moreover, authorities at different levels in regions and states are also exposing and taking action against crimes including online gambling and scams (Kyar Phyant) resolutely so that their regions and states are free from such crimes while combined teams including personnel of security forces are launching investigations strictly.

In doing so, security forces, acting on a tip that illegal online gambling and scam (Kyar Phyant) centres were being operated in Mongyai Township, Shan State (North), raided the township and exchange fire with teams of guards for Kyar Phyant operations in surrounding areas to the southeast of the township on 5 February. During the fighting security forces seized two bodies of guards for Kyar Phyant,five guards and six assorted weapons and detained seven Chinese men and one Chinese woman, three Myanmar men and four Myanmar women.

Furthermore, seven buildings used for Kyar Phyant operations near Naunghan Village, 181 assorted phones, 25 assorted laptops, 21 assorted deskops, 28 assorted keyboards, two Wifi routers, two sects of Star Link, electric equipment used for Kyar Phyant operations and one gun and five rounds of bullet were also seized.

Moreover, eight Chinese men, one Chinese woman, 18 Vietnamese women, two Myanmar men, 25 Myanmar women were detained and 72 computers, five Star Link sets, 79 assorted phones, five fish game machines and two vehicles used for Kyar Phyant operations in Mongha area near Naunghan Village on 6 February. On 7 February, 12 Chinese men were detained and one Alphard and one generator were seized near the village.

During the raids in Mongha area in Mongyai Township from 5 to 7 February, a total of 81 suspects including 27 Chinese men, two Chinese women, totalling 29 suspects, 18 Vietnamese women and five Myanmar men and and 29 Myanmar women, totalling 34 suspects, were detained.

Detainees in the cases are being systematically investigated and measures will be taken to charge them in accordance with the law and to hand over foreigners to relevant countries on humanitarian grounds and friendship among countries.

The government has been investigating exposing and taking effective action against illegal online scams and plans are underway to prevent and combat online gambling and scams in border areas of the country in cooperation with internationl community including neighbouring countries and to continue to expose and take action against such crimes.
